An Exhibition of Living Fungi: Discover the Diversity of Local Species
In cooperation with the Verein für Pilzkunde München e.V./Association for mycology Munich e.V. (Munich Mycological Society)
Right up until the opening, members of the Munich Mycological Society will be foraging in local forests to gather fresh specimens. On-site, experts will carefully identify and organize them by species.
The result is a fascinating look into the incredible diversity of fungi: tiny, massive, slimy, purple, black, turquoise, or bright orange—ranging from delicious edibles to highly toxic specimens. Discover several hundred fresh finds, showcased exclusively for one weekend in the Botanical Garden!
Hidden Heroes of Forests and Meadows
Special attention is given to fungi that are neither edible nor toxic, yet play an essential role in our ecosystem as vital symbiotic partners to trees and key drivers of the nutrient cycle. Their habitats are currently threatened by nitrogen and nutrient pollution from agriculture and traffic. Even seasoned mushroom enthusiasts are bound to make amazing discoveries here.
Mushroom Counseling & Clay Crafting for Kids
Experienced experts will be on hand for personal mushroom consultations, ready to answer almost any question you may have. Creativity takes center stage at the children’s table, where young mushroom fans can draw and sculpt their own findings or imaginary specimens out of clay.
A Late-Summer Highlight
For many years, the Mushroom Exhibition has been an absolute highlight of the Botanical Garden’s late-summer program. The sheer variety of species inspires visitors anew every year – a must-see for all mushroom lovers!

During the special exhibition, the admission price is increased by €1 (reduced €0.50).
