»So eigenthümlich räthselhafte Zeichen…« (Such peculiar, enigmatic signs…)
Art exhibition by Werner Henkel in the Green Room
Werner Henkel dedicates his artistic work to aesthetic phenomena in nature. It is an approach to nature, its forms of expression and its metamorphosis from the perspective of art. In his works, the artist explores the beauty and transience of nature as well as the fragility of the relationship between humans and nature. He gives expression to a wide variety of natural phenomena, speaking to them in a language that is their own and inviting an empathetic dialogue between nature and art. Henkel’s image and object compositions open up a different, deeper view of a seemingly familiar world in all its uniqueness and diversity.
The language of nature
Henkel pays particular attention to the growth forms of plants, animal tracks and mineral structures. He sees them as specific signs, signatures and gestures – a body language of nature, an expression of life processes.
For example, he developed characters and fonts from the growth forms and branches of different tree species. Each tree species has its own characteristic font, understood here as a species font. What nature wants to communicate is up to each individual to decide for themselves…
