TWO VIEWS on Plants – Plants in 3D

A completely new perspective on plants is made possible by the 3D photo exhibition “Two Views on Plants” by Sebastian Cramer. The photographer utilizes a nearly forgotten technique: stereo photography.

Exhibition: September 7th to November 1st, 2023

Alien looking plants in cyan and red suddenly unfold into voluminous photographic sculptures when viewed through 3D glasses. This gives seemingly familiar natural forms a completely new dimension: Leaves and flowers appear delicate and fragile, sometimes even alien and futuristic, as they transform into photographic sculptures. Cramer’s exhibition is a project about vision and the experience of space. His modern works prove that stereo photography, once highly successful but now almost completely forgotten, has not lost any of its original fascination. His large-format photographs showcase plants and historical specimens of the Bavarian State Collection for Botany. The vibrant colors of these preserved plants, some up to 100 years old, have faded, leaving behind unexpectedly beautiful, translucent, and fragile objects.

The 3D photo exhibition can be seen in the Green Hall of the Botanical Garden Munich-Nymphenburg, open daily from 9 am to 5:30 pm (last admission: 5 pm).
The event is part of the Flower Power Festival 2023, supported by the Society of Friends of the Botanical Garden Munich and the Elfriede and Franz Jakob Foundation.
