Review | Avantgarde Exhibition

On August 15, 2022, Evalie Wagner’s exhibition Avantgarden was on view for the last time in the Winter Hall of the Munich-Nymphenburg Botanical Garden.

Avantgardening is what Austrian artist and designer Evalie Wagner calls her interventions with and in nature. From July 15 to August 15, Wagner showed a special installation in the Winter Hall of the Munich-Nymphenburg Botanical Garden: selected plant material from the Botanical Garden was displayed on fabric panels.

As a research institution, the Botanical Garden has the task of collecting, examining, cultivating and exhibiting wild and cultivated plants from all over the world and thus from different climatic regions according to scientific criteria. With Avantgarden, the artist Evalie Wagner picked up on this and created an expansive plant atlas reminiscent of a walk-in herbarium. The exhibition was auditorily accompanied by the sound of the Uruguayan musician Caminauta.
