Exhibition: Thanksgiving – Seeds for the future

Saturday, 23. September 2023 - Sunday, 1. October 2023

Special exhibition on sustainable seeds in the winter hall in cooperation with TAGWERK Förderverein e.V. and Kulturpflanzenentwicklung Obergrashof e.V.

Few people are aware of how many varieties of fruits, vegetables and grains have been grown in Bavaria traditionally. The exhibition provides an insight into the regional treasures of our cultivated plants.

In cooperation with TAGWERK e.V. and Kulturpflanzenentwicklung Obergrashof e.V., this year’s exhibition will have a special focus on seed-proof varieties of cultivated plants. Unlike hybrid varieties, which are created through cross-breeding, seed-proof varieties retain all of their characteristics in the following generation. They are often resistant, traditional varieties that represent a valuable heritage in agriculture.

The exhibition explains the basics of breeding and propagation of plants using various vegetable cultivars. The entire cycle from sowing to flowering and seed collection can be experienced. The exhibition provides an insight into the regional treasures of our cultivated plants and shows how many varieties of fruits, vegetables and cereals are traditionally grown in Bavaria. Throughout the exhibition there will be tastings of vegetable and fruit varieties.
