Exotic butterflies are flying freely in the Aquatic House

Tropical butterflies in all colours, very close: For many people in Munich the exhibition “Tropical Butterflies” is a traditional winter highlight. Due to the Corona pandemic, the visit was not possible for three years. Now the butterflies are finally back again!

More than 400 butterflies from tropical America and Southeast Asia are flying around freely in the Aquatic Plant House (house 4 of the greenhouses). Special butterfly farms in Costa Rica and Malaysia send their chrysalids to Munich Botanical Garden. A few days after they have arrived in the warm and humid greenhouse, they hatch.

Important Information & Tips

• On weekends, tickets for the butterfly exhibition are typically sold out by around 12 – 1 pm.
  Tickets are only available on the day of your visit.
  

• NEW: Entry to the butterfly exhibition on weekends is only possible with a time slot entry band (e.g. 11 – 12 pm). You will automatically receive the band when purchasing your ticket at the main ticket office. You can spend your waiting time in the greenhouses or outdoors. The water plant house, where the butterflies are located, can only be entered within the designated time slot (please also plan for waiting times here).
  

• There are currently longer waiting times at the ticket office (30 – 90 minutes). Please plan for longer waiting times outdoors and in the greenhouses. We recommend using quieter weekdays and early morning hours on weekends.
  

• Tickets are available at the main ticket office, Menzinger Straße 65
  Mo – Fr: valid for the day of visit (without time slot)
  on weekends: valid for the day of visit (including entry band with time slot)
  

• Strollers: You can park strollers at the basement of the main ticket office (elevator available) or to the right before the entrance of the greenhouse. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, strollers cannot be taken into the greenhouses at the moment.
  

• The Aquatic Plant House cannot be ventilated during the winter months. We would like to point out that the visit of the butterfly exhibition is on your own responsibility. In addition, we kindly ask persons with a positive Corona test result to desist from a visit to the greenhouses. Thank you!
