Special Exhibition: Tropical Butterflies

Free flying butterflies

Every year in the winter months, the Botanical Garden Munich-Nymphenburg offers a special opportunity to experience tropical butterflies up close in the aquatic plant house of the greenhouses. The chrysalids come from special butterfly farms in Costa Rica and the Philippines. Just a few days after their arrival in the warm and humid climate of the greenhouse, they hatch and fly freely in the aquatic plant house. With a bit of luck, you can observe mating, egg laying, caterpillar stages and pupation on site. In this way, the entire life cycle of the butterflies can be experienced.

Admission with time slot tickets only

Space in the aquatic plant house is very limited.Therefore, only a limited number of visitors are allowed in at any one time. During the butterfly exhibition, only time slot tickets are available:

• The time slot ticket is valid as a day ticket for the greenhouses from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• The booked time slot only specifies the admission time to the butterfly exhibition (in the water plant house). There is no time limit on how long you can stay with the butterflies.
• You can visit the other areas of the greenhouse with your ticket between 9 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.
• The outdoor area is free of charge during this time.

Where can I get time slot tickets?

• At the main ticket office, we offer a fixed number of time slot tickets every day.
  These tickets are only valid on the same day. The tickets are available from the first day of the exhibition.

• You can book your desired date in the online ticket shop.
  The time slot tickets are available shortly before the start of the exhibition.

The time slot ticket is also valid as a day ticket for all other show greenhouses.
You can use your ticket to enter these areas at any time – before or after your visit to the butterflies.

Your ticket specifies the start time for your visit to the butterfly exhibition in the aquatic plant house.
On the ticket you will find the TimeSlot information (= time slot), the date of your visit and your start time.

Ticket Example: “TimeSlot 14.00 Uhr, Einlasszeit 60 Minuten” (TimeSlot 2 pm, Admission time 60 minutes):

• You can enter the aquatic plant house between 2 am and 3 am.
• Of course you can stay longer in the butterfly exhibition.
• Please allow for waiting times in front of the greenhouse entrance and the aquatic plant house.

The greenhouses

The show greenhouses consist of three central halls, from which 11 smaller show greenhouses and the Green Room branch off, in which we are simultaneously presenting the exhibition Insect Drawings from Nature by Martina Zwanziger. Our greenhouse map shows you the way to the aquatic plant house.

Pushchairs cannot be taken into the greenhouses due to safety regulations. You can park your pushchairs in the basement of the main ticket office building or outside next to the entrance to the show greenhouses.

Entrance

Daily from 9 am to 4 pm.
Last admission to the greenhouses 3.30 pm.
The Botanical Garden is closed on 24 and 31 December.
The outdoor area is open free of charge until 4.30 pm. The south entrance closes at 4.15 pm.

Regular 6,50 € | discount 4,50 €
Free Admission for children under 12 years.
Reduced Admission for adolescens from 12 to 17 years. Please have your valid proof ready on site.
